Global Grant

Rotary Club of Ramna (RC Ramna) implemented eight global grant projects since the Rotary Year 2019-2020 together with international partner clubs, such as the Rotary Club of Ilsan Jayuro of Republic of Korea, the Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar, and Rotary Club of Bombay Chembur West of India. There are two projects with Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar of which RC Ramna is the international partner. Total approved grant amount from TRF, DDF, and club contributions in the eight projects of RC Ramna are US$665,369. 
The two projects of which the RC Ramna is the international partner club is completed and closed at TRF. 
 

GG2347250 MAMM'S Institute of Fistula and Women's Health (Total budget: 39,897.00, activities completed 2024):

This is the latest global grant project implemented by RC Ramna. This one is also in partnership with Rotary Club of Ilsan Jayuro of Republic of Korea. Our international partner expressed interest to cooperate with us with one project every year. But this year it was not possible as Bangladesh Rotary is in a Non-district status, meaning we cannot have any access to TRF fund till our normal status as RI District is restored.
The obstetric fistula (OF) mostly affects the poor patients for a variety of reasons such as early marriage, socialdiscrimination against women due mainly to cultural and economic factors, substandard medical care, andimportantly the poor financial status of the family. Women with this disease avoid taking medical treatment outof shame of being abandoned by their husbands and families due to continuous spillage of urine or feces or bothspreading unpleasant smells. They either cannot afford to get the treatment due to poverty or hide themselves because of social taboo. 
The project is intended to serve the Fistula and also other reproductive health problems of the  population ofBangladesh at large, particularly those from marginalized and poor communities.  The project was at MAMM’S Institute of Fistula and Women’s Health in Dhaka. The hospital has their full-time doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other staff. The patients who get treatment in this hospital mainly come from under privileged part of society. Its unique strength is the voluntary service provided by senior specialist doctors mainly due to its central location and the leadership that can imbibe the spirit of this voluntary service. The dedicated service of its founder director Prof. Dr. Sayeba Akhter who is an eminent gynecologist and fistula surgeon with national and international recognition. She has earned many international and national awards as recognition of her expertise in this field and for her dedication to the cause of serving the humanity.
The equipment provided from this project are one General Anesthesia machine with ventilator, cardiac monitor, one operation table, one OT light, one UV machine for disinfection of the operation theatre, one Diathermy machine, two computers, and one printer. 
Upgradation of the infrastructure, Renovation of patient area and toilets, some civil work, awareness, and advocacy outreach program were also done as part of this project. MAMM'S Institute of Fistula and Women's Health conducted 

training by Experienced Fistula Surgeon, Specialist Doctors and Senior Consultant doctors from home & abroad to train the young doctors and other health professionals at MAMM'S Institute premises for  skills development and confidence building. 
With the new equipment, infrastructure upgradation, capacity building of service providers, the hospital is now able to provide efficient and improved quality of services to the patients with increased numbers.  The hospital also provided some support for patient reintegration and rehabilitation in the family and society.
The project funding components are:  $ 13332 from the World Fund, $16,665.00 from DDF contributions:  Cash contributions from Ramna and Ilsan Jayaru $9,900.00. Financing Total budget: $39,897.00
 

GG1872446 Report Jahanara Eye Care Hospital (Grant amount: 197,250 USD, Completed in 2022):
The objective of the project was to provide healthcare services to significantly reduce the backlog of cataract blindness, and develop capacity for sub-specialty services, such as for cornea, retina, glaucoma, and raise awareness on eye health in Bogra, Joypurhat, Naogaon, and Gaibandha districts.  The project was enabled with the directed gift and cash contribution of now deceased PDG. Rtn. Ali Mahbub AKS during his life time, together with the contribution from TRF Global Fund. Through this project, the Eyecare Centre was  established at TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital (TMC/RCH) at Thengamara, Bogura, which was later named as "Jillur and Jahanara Eye Care Centre” in remembrance  of the late parents of PDG. Rtn. Ali Mahbub. This Centre is now providing  updated quality eye care services to the patients of the surrounding and hard to reach areas, as well as serve the poor people of the Northern part of Bangladesh. This is a land mark project of RC Ramna in the recent times. 
The Centre was equipped with a full range of eyecare equipment for diagnosis and treatment of all eye diseases that included medical retina treatment. Training was provided to doctors, nurses, and para-medics for the use and maintenance of the equipment, and treatment of patients. Advance training was provided on medical retina treatment for two doctors with DO specialty at the reputed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, BSMMU (PG Hospital) and two technicians at Bangladesh Eye Hospital. There were 36 outreach eye health camps conducted in the project area for awareness, cataract screening, eye testing, glaucoma, retina related diseases, and referral of suspected patients to nearby TMSS Rafatullah Community Hospital. 
At completion of the project in march 2022, over 60,000 people benefitted in in-patient   and outpatient treatment, outreach services, and in the training activities. 

GG2014537 Report Rotary - TMSS Hospital Covid -19 Testing and Treatment Center, Thengamara, Bogura (Grant amount: 96,880 USD, completed in February 2021):
To meet the urgent needs of the community and the hospital, to respond to the seriousness of the COVID 19 infection in 2020, the project established the PCR Laboratory with RT-PCR for COVID 19 testing at the TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital (TMC/RCH) at Thengamara, Bogura. The added   facility in the project was for strengthening the ICU unit of the hospital with ICU Beds, Cardiac Monitors, and Ventilators for treatment of COVID 19 infected patients. Total number of COVID 19 samples tested in the PCR Laboratory between August 2020 to February 2021 were 11342 of which 1632 tested positive. The hospital data showed that 863 COVID 19 patients were admitted during August 2020 to February 2021 of which 22 patients took treatment at the ICU. There were 252 patients who received post COVID treatment. Cost free treatment was given to 4 patients and patients 

who made partial payment were 180. As for management for patient treatment, it established the triage system to protect their regular patients and to pay special attention to the COVID 19 infected patients.

During the peak period of the infection, the daily national testing was about11,000 as reported in a data release of the Directorate General of Health Services. TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community  Hospital has performed daily 84 tests, 122 tests and 87  tests in the three days i.e. 11, 12 & 13 March 2021, of which two cases were COVID positive. The PCR laboratory was visited by a Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Ramna in October 9-10, 2020. 
It should be noted that this project has helped a great deal in providing the COVID 19 testing facility, and the strengthened ICU at TMC/RCH in protecting the community of northern part of Bangladesh, particularly in Bogura. TMSS hospital with its excellent staff strengthened this process.
 

GG1990650 Report Prosthetic and Orthotic Limb Center (Grant amount: 69,500 USD, completed in 2021):
The project objective was to develop a limb Centre at TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital. The components of the project are as such, for suction and other equipment,  

Air compressor machine, Infrared Oven Equipment; raw materials supplies that included limb components, and   training for limb installation, and awareness raising. 

This Global Grant Project at completion has the fully operational and functional Prosthetic Centre at TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital. As per statistics, the northern part of Bangladesh is the highest accident-prone area of the country and this is the first and so far, the only Center in this part to provide artificial limb services. The center also caters to the need of stroke patients, patients with GB syndrome, diabetic foot, club foot etc. Apart from this grant from TRF, Rotary club of Ramna has also supported this center providing needy patients with wheel chairs and walking sticks. The current coordinator of the center is an Orthopedic surgeon along with 4 other qualified and trained specialists in his team. During the Covid period the patient’s inflow was reduced but things are back to normal on an average the center is providing support to 2 patients every day. We hope that soon the center will progress and be able to provide cosmetic level services to the patients as well. Overall, this Global Grant project has created a massive impact in the Northern Part of Bangladesh and RC Ramna is very proud to be a part of it. 

GG2015260 Report Akhalia Happy School and College (Grant amount: 38,000 USD, Completed in 2022):
The project design was to improve the classroom facilities by providing teaching aids, IT equipment and class room furniture. The items provided as categories of equipment are Computers, Printer, Multimedia Projector, CCTV Camera, Screen, IT accessories, UPS and networking cables, Science Lab equipment, Water Purification machines Reverse Osmosis plus UV - Pure IT Ultima, and Fire Extinguishers; Writing Pad &  Chairs, Teachers desks, Computer desks, Shelves, Chairs, White Boards, Books for the Library; Training of Teachers; and  re-making of 6 Toilets, civil works in the building, electrical works, interior and exterior Paint work of the entire school building, and prepare the sports field with goal posts and cricket pitch. This project was able to improve the quality of teaching environment with introduction necessary tools, classrooms and common facilities renovations, that was able to motivate the students for  better learning and to strengthen confidence in teachers work.
 

GG2125002 Report Rotary - Dr. Mozaffar Rahman Cancer Detection Centre, in TMSS, Thengamara, Bogura(Grant amount: 86,471 USD, Completed in 2023):   
The project achieved the objective to establish a strengthened cancer early detection Centre providing necessary equipment, trained hospital staff, and conducting outreach camps for awareness raising and screening. The Directed Gift of Mrs. Gule Afroz Mahbub, wife of Late PDG Rtn. Ali Mahbub is well appreciated.

The major equipment supplied were: Mammography machine with all necessary components from Siemens Healthcare Limited installed in the Radiology & Imaging Department for early detection of breast cancer, One Video Colposcopy machine for use in the Outpatient Department of Obs & Gynae to examine Cervix cancer.

GG2232664 Report ROTARY-TMSS DNA Sequencing Lab for Cancer Targeted Therapy (Grant amount: 98,108 USD, Completed in August 2023, waiting acceptance of closing report):
Overall objective was to develop a facility at TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital (shortly called as TMC/RCH), Bogura, Bangladesh for improved treatment of early-stage breast cancer and other types of cancers such as lung and colorectal cancer at an affordable, low cost, and free for the people living in northern Bangladesh as the case maybe.
The DNA Sequencing Lab is established at TMC/RCH by providing New Generation Sequencing (NGS) System with 24 sample BRCA Run and accessories for targeted treatment of cancer. Awareness raising & publicity of benefits of NGS technology and advance treatment of cancer at TMC/RCH; Advanced level Training on DNA research and NGS technology for medical practitioners and scientists were done.  The Centre is now fully functional to provide service and treatment as intended.

Grant title Rotary- Friendship Physiotherapy and Autism Center(Total budget: 39,263.00  USD, project ongoing):
The main objective of the project is to create access and provide quality physiotherapy services to the persons with disabilities (PWD) in 80 remote shifting riverine islands (chars) of Kurigram and Gaibandha districts of Bangladesh.  
Through this Global Grant project two physiotherapy centers withautism corners were set up (one in Gaibandha and one in Kurigram). Each center is provided with equipment and supplies where a licensed physiotherapist and two technicians in each center can provide the required therapy. Related awareness campaign and training is part of this project. 
 

Disability friendly boats were made available to the people in need through this project. It is expected to create a huge impact in the lives of the people with disability and special needs. These components of the project are already completed and an inaugural occasion was held for formal opening of these two Centres.
 

GG2011908 Report supply equipment for ICU of Jain Mission Hospital (Grant amount: 109,091 USD, completed in 2021):
RC Ramna is the international partner and the Rotary Bangalore is the Host club of this project. Equipment procured are B125 ATO model and 

accessories, Philips EV300 ventilator, Philips DFM100 AED, and monitor. The Jain Mission Hospital is fully functional with the ICU that remains fully occupied.

RC Ramna is the international partner and the Rotary Bangalore is the Host club of this project.Projectprovided CT Scan required for Public healthcare routinely which can diagnose, manage and treat many conditions.
